Assignment for Reflection #1
(Stage 1 of
preparation for your final presentation)
Learning by Doing
In teams of four or five, you are going to go out into the field
and produce a five-minute i video in the medium of your choice – e.g. mobile
phone, camera, iPad.
Your video will be about your Emirati cultural heritage and you will reflect on how Emirati culture
can be conserved and promoted for the next generation
Your video must be filmed in a place where tourists are found
– places could include
The Heritage Village, The Grand Mosque, The Corniche, The Big Tour Bus, A Camel
Farm, The Malls, The Harbour, Meena.
The video must:-
· Introduce yourselves (10 seconds)
· Explain your Emirati culture by describing the
use of at least four cultural artifacts e.g. a coffee pot, a burqa
· Reflect
on what makes your culture unique
· Reflect
on how your grandparents made their living?
· Reflect
on how much Emirati culture has changed in forty years
· Ask some tourists about what their culture is
most famous for
· Chat to tourists about their opinions on
Emirati culture
· It would be excellent if you film some of the
interaction between your team and the tourists but if that is not possible, a
photo and a spoken summary of their opinions is acceptable
· Reflect
on the fact that Nationals are less than 11.5 % of UAE residents - what should
be done to conserve and promote Emirati culture?
· Reflect
on the effect of tourism on your culture – does it promote Emirati culture and
identity or damage it?
· Reflect
on whether the UAE is best described as being a melting pot or a garden salad
of cultures
· Film
a strong conclusion
